Cedar Bark Tinder

Cedar tinder is easy to light after you get a dry fluffy ball. This example is from Eastern Red Cedar.


You have to scrape not shave the bark. Put the knife blade at a 90 degree angle to the tree and scrape down.





Shower sparks directly on tinder until the tinder takes the flame. It'll look a lot like this.


This will allow plenty of time to add kindling to get your fire stable.
